Apple iPhone, often called “the most sleek and smart gizmo available today that can make calls too!” by techies and Apple fans was announced in January 2007 and launched on 29th. June 2007. Within a few weeks, many iPhone reviews could be found over the net.
Though Apple laid down the probable specifications before the pubic in early 2007, I remember having read and seen several “leaked photos” of the iPhone which eventually turned out to be fake. Actually, the iPod has its roots so deep in people’s minds and social life that the speculation for such an intelligent multi-functional device that work as a phone was inevitable.
When the iPhone was announced, Apple fans and technology experts all over the world fell over whether it could become the best all-rounder digital device and phone one could ever imagine. The Internet was filled with blog entries, forum postings and consumer opinion tech sites debating whether it’s the dream gadget ever thought of. The same enthusiasm could be seen again when it was available for sale at the apple stores on 29th. June 2007. I remember having read some Apple fans queued up for more than 24 hours just to get an iPhone…something which people like myself can’t digest easily.
Anyway, the Apple iPhone boasts of some revolutionary specifications. It’s touted as the “gadget/smartphone for the people”…but it has some serious drawbacks too. I really like its huge touch controlled display, 320×480 pixels in size. Just tap with your fingers to control the device…gloves won’t work though! Yes, there’s no keypad. A 2 megapixel camera is also in place that can snap stills and video. The size of the phone is huge in my opinion, though the thickness is really small. It’s taller than most phones and larger than a normal iPod. But, it’s only available in the USA currently and that too tied with a single operator - AT&T. The device looks and feels great with a scratch resistant body.
The interface is intuitive and easy to work with. The major plus is the iPod integration and integrated Safari web browser. Web browsing is definitely an enjoyable experience. But you might have to suffer with it’s poor Exchange support, inability to sync over bluetooth and WiFi and can’t be used as a modem at all. The iTunes support on Windows isn’t too reliable at times. What I hate most about this phone is the lack of “proper” add-on applications. Regular email users will agree the mail client is poor. Common folk will feel the heat with it’s very low speaker-phone, ringer and alerts volume.
The iPhone currently comes in 4GB and 8GB variants starting at over $400. For such a price, one expects decent performance, value for money along with flaunt value and style. The iphone scores on many aspects, but loses out on a few too. According to me, it isn’t so revolutionary as it’s touted and not a smartphone for the masses.
I’d advise you all to read the trusted iphone reviews at TestFreaks.com to know more about the device, upsides, downsides, expert opinions and consumer opinions before even thinking of investing in this device.
